EastEnders ratings slump as BGT and ITV1 clean up
EastEnders suffered a big fall in ratings with ITV1 capturing the lion's share of last week's viewers courtesy of Britain's Got Talent and Coronation Street. BBC One's EastEnders, usually a fixture at or near the top of the nation's most-watched TV programmes, fell to number 27, with 5.84 million* tuning into the episode on Tuesday, May 31, according to Broadcast/BARB figures. The week before, EastEnders had the third most-watched programme, with nine million tuning into the episode on Monday, May 23. At the top of last week's ratings was the Britain's Got Talent Final Results show on Saturday, watched by 12.2 million, while Coronation Street's Monday episode drew 10.4 million. Other programmes ranked above EastEnders include Emmerdale (7.21 million), Antiques Roadshow (6.6 million), Popstar to Operastar: The Curtain Raiser (6.4 million) and The Apprentice (6.3 million). The weekly results represent a big success for ITV1, even though the BGT Final audience was slightly down on 2010's. *The figures do not count online views or omnibus editions.
