Best 40-inch and 43-inch TVs in 2020
Some folks might need a TV that straddles the line between a big screen and smaller screen. The 40-inch is that bridge, and that specific size is actually pretty hard to come by since most brands go straight from 32 to 43 inches. So if you need something in that sweet sub-45-inch pocket, check out these 40- and 43-inch options.
- Top pick: Samsung NU7100 (40", 43")
- Runner-up: LG UK6300 (43")
- Excellent value: TCL S305 (40", 43")
- Also great: Vizio D-Series (40", 43")
- Best mid-range 4K: Vizio E-Series (43")
- Budget 4K pick: TCL 5 Series (43")
It may be slightly overkill for a 40-inch TV, but 4K for under $400 is a lot of value. Add to that Samsung's excellent smart TV platform and you have a powerhouse of a TV. This model supports HDR10+ and presents the dynamic, gorgeous colors that Samsung TVs are known for. For the best all-around experience at 40 inches, this is the absolute best option.
For all intents and purposes, this LG model is still a gold medal in my book, but its blacks aren't quite as deep as the Samsung NU7100's, which is why it comes in second. It features LG's new AI ThinQ, which lets you control the television using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. There's also LG's unreal webOS smart interface. All that, plus glorious 4K with impressive color and a wide viewing angle makes for an excellent television worth your moolah.
This 1080p model has Google's Chromecast built right in, and you can control it with your voice using either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. With full backlighting, this TV offers great viewing from just about any angle, and its near-bezel-less design means you notice the picture, not the physical TV. Vizio makes excellent, affordable TVs.
For smaller living rooms, apartments, dorm rooms, and even larger bedrooms, the 40- to 43-inch form factor for TVs is perfect. This is also a sweet spot for 4K pricing. If you're looking for the absolute best TV in this size, then Samsung's NU7100 is a no-brainer, but if you're looking for more of a bargain, I'd go with the TCL 5 Series , which has a lot to offer in spite of its price.
