‘Call The Midwife makes my husband cry,’ reveals Pam Ferris
Call The Midwife star Pam Ferris has revealed her husband cries watching the show.
The 66-year-old actress stars as Sister Evangelina in the hit BBC drama, which returns to BBC1 on Christmas Day with more emotional stories of the midwives at Nonnatus House in the Fifties and Sixties.
“My husband cries a lot,” says Pam. “It’s industrial strength kitchen roll he requires, not tissues.
“Usually he is very helpful with things - he likes to listen to my lines and helps with stuff, but on this particular show, he says, ‘Don’t tell me, don’t spoil it for me’.”
Pam also revealed that as she was alive in the Fifties and Sixties she can sometimes “supply memories” for her younger colleagues on the show, adding the series serves as an important reminder to appreciate all we have.
“I think it’s really healthy, politically, to remember how brilliant our National Health Service is.
“Because, you know, we complain it won’t do this, that and the other for us, but when you think how it started and how vital it was then, and how we are in danger of taking it for granted, it's really important to remember that.”
