Casualty favourite Brenda Fricker is returning to the BBC1 drama for a one-off special to be screened as part of Red Nose Day. Oscar-winning actress Brenda, who played nurse Megan, jumped at the chance to appear in the special, which has been penned by Comic Relief founder Richard Curtis. Brenda, who scooped an Oscar for her powerhouse performance in the 1989 film My Left Foot, said: "I was absolutely delighted to be asked to do something for Comic Relief - and what better way than appearing in Casualty again after all these years." She went on to add how returning to the series prompted a host of memories to come flooding back, and said filming the Comic Relief special was a 'thoroughly enjoyable' experience. The former staff member brings her grandson into the emergency department, where he is diagnosed with schizophrenia, and promptly steals Abs' (James Redmond) camper van and crashes the vehicle with Abs inside. Brenda isn't the only famous face to pop up in the episode. Former Have I Got News for You host Angus Deayton also appears, playing a grumpy man with a splinter in his thumb. The special edition of Casualty airs on March 10 and will be one of a series of programmes shown in the run-up to Red Nose Day on March 16.
