Casualty star Richard Winsor reveals doctor Cal Knight is head over heels in love with baby Matilda, but scares and shocks are in the works for the smitten medic.

Speaking to What’s on TV about the explosive storyline, which has seen Lothario Cal left holding ex girlfriend Taylor’s baby, Richard said: “Cal has fallen really heavily for baby Matilda and sees her as his chance to commit to something worthwhile. She’s his redemption really, and a chance at a more mature, responsible life. But when things get very serious, it’s a real challenge for him.”

We can reveal things get super serious in Saturday’s episode when Matilda becomes desperately ill and needs urgent medical attention at Holby ED. As the team works tirelessly to treat the vulnerable baby, Cal begins to crack under the pressure and legs it from the hospital…

Meanwhile, the paternity tests that will reveal whether Matilda is in fact Cal’s daughter or not have arrived in the post. But Cal hasn’t noticed because Matilda’s life is hanging in the balance!

Richard said: “Cal has stepped up to the plate for Matilda, but in this episode things get rocked and he’s pushed to a nervous breakdown!”

He added: “It’s great to play this emotional, serious side of Cal. He’s normally the cheeky womaniser. There are more twists and turns. This story will tease the audience as new things transpire.”

Find out whether Cal abandons Matilda and what the paternity results reveal in Casualty on BBC1, Saturday, November 21 at 9pm
