Clive Mantle has ear bitten off in hotel attack
Game Of Thrones star Clive Mantle has had part of his ear bitten off during an attack at a hotel.
The 55-year-old actor - who has also appeared in the long-running BBC medical drama Casualty - underwent surgery to save his ear following the early-morning attack on Sunday.
He was staying at a Travelodge in Forster Street on Newcastle's Quayside after appearing in a touring production of The Ladykillers at the city's Theatre Royal.
A 32-year-old man from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, has been charged with wounding with intent. He will appear before Newcastle Magistrates next month.
It was believed Clive was attacked at 4.30am after he asking other guests to keep the noise down.
A spokesman for the actor's agent, London-based Saraband Associates, said the police and ambulance crews were called after the attack and the part of his ear which was severed was re-attached.
Clive will see a specialist in Oxford tomorrow to see if that has been a success.

In the meantime he will not be available to play in The Ladykillers run in Manchester as he has been told he must not get make-up near his wound, the agent's spokesman said.
"He is very badly shaken up," he said. "He sounds very wobbly."
Clive, who is over 6ft 5in tall, played Greatjon Umber, a Northern lord, in the first series of Game of Thrones. In Casualty he played surgeon Mike Barrett.
