Lembit Opik denies Celebrity Big Brother claims
Lembit Opik has slammed reports that he has signed up to appear in Celebrity Big Brother. The Liberal Democrat MP issued a statement denying The Sun's claim that he was to appear in the new series of the Channel 4 reality TV show in January. A spokesman for Lembit said: "Mr Opik has no intention of being a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother. "Mr Opik is fully committed to spending his time and energy representing his constituents in Montgomeryshire and running for the Presidency of the Liberal Democrats." The 43-year-old politician recently split from his Cheeky Girl fiancee Gabriela Irimia, 25. He proposed to her in Rome in April and the engagement was featured in a photo spread for OK! magazine, followed by a party at London's Embassy nightclub. Prior to that he dated weather girl Sian Lloyd, 50. Lembit is no stranger to TV having appeared on Al Murray's Happy Hour, The All Star Talent Show and All Star Mr And Mrs, as well as being a guest host on BBC satirical quiz show Have I Got News For You. MP George Galloway, who represents the Respect party for Bethnal Green and Bow constituency in London, was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother in 2006. Celebrity Big Brother took a break this year following the alleged racist bullying of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty by Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara during the 2007 series.
