The Government has pledged to give £10m to Comic Relief as David Cameron and Take That joined those taking part in this year's Red Nose Day. Cameron followed in the footsteps of his predecessor Tony Blair when he featured in a Masterchef spoof, during the Red Nose Day telethon on Friday night. And he had a chance to show off his acting skills as Miranda Hart, Ruby Wax and Claudia Winkleman served him a three course meal. Cameron compared Claudia's chill con carne to that made by his wife Samantha, saying, "It's one of her specialities," while he confessed that he found Miranda's Gummy Bear-topped trifle so alcoholic he needed a lie-down afterwards. In doing so, he proved more than a match for Blair, who appeared alongside Catherine Tate's character Lauren in the 2007 edition of Comic Relief. The Government's contribution to this year's Red Nose Day will go towards Comic Relief's work in improving health and education across Africa. "Even in these tough economic times, the British public has given an incredible response to Comic Relief's appeal, showing yet again their compassion and generosity," said International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell. "In response to this, the Government will provide extra support on taxpayers' behalf. The Government will come in behind the public's effort, to support and amplify the choices that British people have made." Other highlights during the evening included the appearance of Take That 'tribute' band Fake That. The five-piece, consisting of David Walliams, John Bishop, Catherine Tate, James Corden and Alan Carr, appeared in a sketch in which they auditioned in front of the actual band. Walliams - who had already done his bit for Red Nose Day by appearing on the quiz show marathon 24 Hour Panel People - said, "Being in a boy band for the day was really tiring. "We had to do all the dance moves. But when Take That did it they were like 22 - I'm 39, and I just thought, 'I can't handle this.'" Special editions of Doctor Who and sitcom Outnumbered were also featured on the BBC One show, whose hosts included Claudia Winkleman, Davina McCall,Michael McIntyre and Graham Norton.
