Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is to appear a new Northern Irish production of Bram Stoker’s iconic gothic tale as one of the vampire’s wives.
Kym has been cast with Rachel Tucker and Jayne Wisener as the brides of Dracula in upcoming show called Jonathan Harker And Dracula.
Star of stage and screen Gerard McCarthy will double up, playing both Jonathan Harker, whose diaries chronicle the bloody tale, and the greatest supernatural character of all time, Count Dracula.
Kym, Rachel and Jayne will feature in pre-filmed sequences to be projected on stage with Belfast actor Gerard McCarthy reports the Mirror.
“We wanted three powerful, strong, sexy women to play the brides of Dracula and I’m delighted that Kym, Rachel and Jayne are on board,” says Gerard. “The three of them together will be a force to be reckoned with.”
They are expected to shoot the sequence in Belfast in August.
Kym is best known for her her role as Michelle O’Connor in Coronation Street. She has won a number of awards for the part, including a British Soap Award, a TRIC Award and a National Television Award. On stage she played Annette in the West End production of Saturday Night Fever and recently performed in Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues at the Gaiety Theatre, Isle of Man.
Rachel made her name in the BBC1 talent search I’d Do Anything. The Belfast actress went on to land the highly coveted role of Elphaba in the West End’s production of Wicked, for which she won several awards. Other theatre credits include Meat in We Will Rock You, Ida in Farragut North, Maureen in Rent at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin) and Sally Simpson in The Who’s Tommy (UK tour). Rachel also plays Meg Dawson in The Last Ship, a new musical composed by Sting, opening on Broadway in October.
Jayne became a household name playing Johanna in Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd alongside Hollywood A-listers Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. She also played Lauren in The Inbetweeners, Sandie Morrow in Northern Irish production Six Degrees and Stacie in E4’s Misfits. Her stage credits include Mary Phagan in Parade (Donmar Warehouse) and Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden (West Yorkshire Playhouse).
Gerard has starred in Hollyoaks, The Fall, Titanic: Blood & Steel and Vikings. His first feature film, A Nightingale Falling, is due for cinema release in September. He made his Shakespearean debut as Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, directed by Christopher Luscombe.
Directed by Ulster Theatre Company’s artistic director Michael Poynor, Jonathan Harker and Dracula will run from September 18 to 27 at the Theatre At The Mill in Belfast prior to a UK and Irish Tour.
