Corrie's Simon: 'All I want is a happy family'
Coronation Street star Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald, reveals what he and his family have planned this Christmas... What are your plans for Christmas 2011? “Christmas 2011 is just Christmas with the family at home in front of the fire. Emma and I are doing the cooking this year so we’ll be having a massive turkey, maybe a turducken!” Does any particular Christmas stand out for you? “Our first Christmas with Alfie was really special – it was the first Christmas with my son so that was a big one.” What’s a typical Christmas day like for you these days? “Too much food, a small amount of wine and lots of tidying up the next day! The kids waking us up at the crack of dawn and asking whether he’s been and the whole run up as well.” What kind of Christmas celebration do you have with your co-stars? “There’s a few parties, a big cast and crew party and drinks at the local pub after work.” Do you have to work over Christmas and New Year? “No – we all get two weeks off, which is great.” What TV do you most enjoy over Christmas? “All the comedies, Mock the Week and all the satirical stuff – I like 8 Out of 10 Cats and I love QI. All the programmes that have got today’s best comics on them. He’s the king of the universe, Mr Stephen Fry.” What do you want for Christmas this year? “I just want a happy family.” What would you buy Steve to cheer him up? “A holiday in Ibiza with Lloyd!” What’s your favourite movie? “One of the best movies is The Shawshank Redemption – it’s not exactly a Christmas movie, but you know if it’s a movie you want to watch for acting and story, it’s got to be Shawshank!”
