June Whitfield joins Corrie for Blanche's funeral
Absolutely Fabulous and One Foot in the Grave star June Whitfield will appear in Coronation Street to play a friend of Blanche at the long running character's funeral. The Carry On actress will explain to Deirdre Barlow how her mother died when she appears as the pal that Blanche was staying with in Portugal. Maggie Jones, who starred as Blanche in the soap, passed away in December and the Corrie cast attended a memorial service last week. She fell ill in October and soap writers had to change the storyline to explain the absence of the much loved character. June will appear in two episodes in May, accompanied by Kate Ford who returns as troublesome Tracy Barlow for Blanche's funeral. Roy Hudd will also go back to Corrie to play undertaker Archie Shuttleworth. Click here to watch whatsontv.co.uk's weekly soaps video preview, the Soap Scoop
