Character died off screen in an accident in Portugal
Coronation Street fans were stunned as character Katy Armstrong was killed off in a car crash.
The receptionist, who was played by Georgia May Foote up until 2015, died off screen in an accident in Portugal.
Fans of the ITV soap were shocked as her sister Izzy (Cherylee Houston) broke the sad news to Weatherfield’s residents in dramatic scenes in Wednesday night’s instalment.
One person posted on Twitter: “R.I.P Katy Armstrong #corrie heaven has gained an angel.”
“NOOOO katy is dead!! So sad xx,” tweeted another, while others said it “sucked”.
Other soap fans said they had thought Katy might be back on the Cobbles some day.
“OMG not Katy, I always hoped she’d come back,” said one.
“Not gonna lie, I’m gutted Katy has died off screen. We’re never going to see the stunning @georgiafoote on the cobbles again,” said another, adding a crying face emoji.
Actress Georgia was written out of Coronation Street in 2015, with her character heading off to live in Portugal.
