Liam's Coronation Street calamities
His brother’s dead, his girlfriend’s a hooker... can life get any worse for Liam Connor! No, it's hit rock bottom, says Coronation Street star Rob James-Collier. Liam didn't have a clue about what was going on, did he? "Out of the blue he got a call from Paul insisting he meet him at the flat immediately as there was something urgent he should know..." And while Liam’s still wondering, Janice got an even more disturbing call from Leanne who tells her Paul’s kidnapped her... "Janice rushed to Liam and told him the bizarre story and he sussed it tied in with Paul’s call. He tried to call Paul but his mobile was suddenly turned off..." Because Paul's lost control of his car... "As Liam and Janice raced to Paul’s flat they’re stopped at the scene of a car crash... and are horrified to see it’s Paul’s car. Liam ran towards the car and saw a seriously injured Paul being cut from the wreckage. He immediately feared for Leanne and shouted for the police to find her. As they opened the boot he feared the worst - but she’s alive!" As they battle to save Paul's life, can Liam make any sense of what's going on? "He’s dumbstruck [when Carla tells him] – he can’t believe what she’s saying. He had no idea that his brother used hookers but worse, much worse, is the revelation that Leanne was one of them. He’s disgusted, but actually I think he’s more hurt that she’s been blatantly lying to him rather than the fact that she has sex for money. Maybe if she’d been upfront from the start and stopped doing it he’d have been able to forgive her. There are always reasons why people fall into prostitution. But she’s lied at every opportunity." And his torment doesn’t get any easier when doctors break the news the Connors dread... "Liam’s devastated. He wants to see Leanne. He needs her to assure him that everything Carla told him was a lie." But when Leanne wakes up, she can't lie to him. So does Liam now blame Leanne for his brother’s death? "There’s part of him that does, yes. When a family member dies you need someone to blame and Leanne is the easiest target." Given that he'd fallen in love with her, is there some way he can forgive her? "Right now there’s absolutely no chance. But personally I think this is a bit unfair. She didn’t make Paul cheat and lie to Carla..." Which we take means, yes, there is a chance!
