ITV has announced today that production will begin on new season of Doc Martin, Foyle's War and eight new Agatha Christie mysteries this Spring. Martin Clunes will reprise his role as the curmudgeonly Doc Martin in the new eight-part series to be filmed in Cornwall. The new season finds the Doc struggling to maintain his life as a GP and contemplating leaving the village, after his wedding day disaster with school headmistress Louisa. Doc Martin drew an audience of over nine million viewers at its peak in 2007. Starring Michael Kitchen as Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle, the much-loved crime drama Foyle's War will return with three new-style episodes. The seventh series returns to post-war Britain where Foyle is thrust into the dangerous worlds of international conspiracy and execution, military racism and national betrayal. Producer Jill Green said: "This fascinating period post-VE day has rarely been featured on TV and once more Foyle's War will be unearthing true stories that reflect tougher, moodier times." Eight new Agatha Christie films have also been commissioned including four new Miss Marple films and the iconic Murder on the Orient Express, which was famously made for the big screen in the early 70s. Three other original Agatha Christie Poirots, will feature David Suchet as the fastidious Belgian detective Hercule Poirot and an all-star cast. ITV's Director of Drama Laura Mackie said: "I'm delighted that we're continuing with three of ITV's biggest and most popular brands, featuring some of Britain's best loved acting talent."
