Doctor Who stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are seen running away from a giant explosion on a foreign planet in a new picture released by the BBC.
The opening episode of the ninth series, due to screen on BBC1 on September 19, will see the return of The Doctor’s nemesis Missy, AKA The Master, played by Michelle Gomez, and it looks like the Time Lord and his companion will be in some trouble.

The new series of the hit sci-fi show promises to introduce a spine-chilling new gang of monsters including a species called the Mire, as well as a whole city full of Daleks.

Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams is among those making guest appearances in season nine, along with Paul Kaye, Rufus Hound and Peter’s former The Thick Of It co-star Rebecca Front.

The series will also see the return of UNIT stalwarts Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver.

And we also know that the ninth season will feature Vikings.
