One of the few pleasant things to look forward to at summer's end is the new season of autumn television – and 2015's offerings are as strong as any previous year's.

Suranne Jones (pictured) returns to star in BBC1's Doctor Foster, a five-part series about a GP whose life is thrown into chaos when she suspects her husband's having an affair. But what else is on?

Sadly, we say goodbye to global hit series Downton Abbey on ITV. The sixth series is the final season, but there are rumours it could become a feature film in due course.

Set in Brighton and starring Ashley Walters and Mr Selfridge's Amanda Abbington, BBC1's eight-part series Cuffs is the tale of a police team fighting crime as well as their personal demons...

ITV's Jekyll and Hyde is a 10-part series based on the novel, but set in 1930s London. Tom Bateman plays the troubled Robert Jekyll, grandson of the original Dr Jekyll, while former Corrie star Natalie Gumede is Bella, who's caught up in a love triangle with Robert.

Ray Winstone stars in ITV's three-part drama The Trials of Jimmy Rose, the story of an armed robber who finally pays a big price for his criminal lifestyle when his family begins to fall apart. Amanda Redman, who played his wife in hit movie Sexy Beast, again plays Ray's missus.

Denise Welch turns up in BBC2's new romantic comedy-drama series Boy Meets Girl. Her son, Leo, brings home an older, beguiling woman to meet his mum. What he hasn't told her is that Judy used to be a man!

The Muppets are reinvented in 2015 as a behind-the-scenes reality TV series. Sky 1 will screen the series created by US network ABC, but as we go to press, Kermit and Miss Piggy are no longer an item after she released this public statement.
