Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael slums it as a maid in her new film
Laura Carmichael is used to being waited on hand and foot as Downton Abbey’s Lady Edith Crawley, but in the trailer for her new film she's the one doing the running around for a change!
The 28-year-old actress stars as a lowly maid in Madame Bovary, which is based on the classic French novel by Gustave Flaubert.
Penned in 1856, the story follows Emma, played by Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who escapes life on her father’s pig farm to live the high life with new husband Mr Charles Bovary. But when the marriage becomes staid, she seeks comfort in the arms of other men.
The film premiered at the London Film Festival last year but is set for general release later this year.
The cast also include Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, who’s best known for his role in the 1999 film Notting Hill, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, who played school bully Mark Donovan in The Inbetweeners.
