EastEnders bosses could face legal action after the baby who played Oscar Branning was axed from the soap. Gabriel Miller Williams, who played Tanya and Max Branning's son, is believed to have been dropped in a bid to 'cut costs'. It apparently costs £300 to take Gabriel from his home in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, to the BBC1 soap's Elstree studios - a sum that bosses deemed to high. But Gabriel's mother, Claire Miller Williams, claims that she wasn't told the 10-month-old - who has played Oscar since he was just six weeks old - had been sacked and only found out when a taxi failed to pick him up. Claire told The Mirror newspaper: "It's a disgusting way to treat people. We still haven't had a call explaining why he was sacked." Claire said that Gabriel was given a new six-month contract in June but was replaced by the child of a BBC employee, adding: "I've sent his contract to solicitors to investigate legal action." The BBC spokesman said: "It is not unusual for babies to be recast several times in continuing drama series such as EastEnders. "In this instance the decision to recast at this time was in part due to Gabriel's travelling costs. "As the BBC strives to deliver value for money across all its productions, travel costs are a factor that must be considered."
