Goodness Gracious! Nina's heading for EastEnders
Actress Nina Wadia will be joining the cast of EastEnders in the coming weeks. The Goodness Gracious Me star will appear in the BBC One soap as post office owner Zainab Masood. Zainab's arrival makes life difficult for Denise (Diane Parish), who is keen to impress her new boss to secure a promotion. But Zainab thrusts her daughter Shabnam (fellow newcomer Zahra Ahmadi) forward, asking Denise to train her up instead. Being in EastEnders isn't Nina's first trip to soapland. The Bombay-born star has appearances in Holby City, Doctors and The Bill to her credit. Since making her small-screen debut in 1991 in 2Point4 Children, Nina has built up an impressive CV. She has featured in series as diverse as The Vicar Of Dibley, Perfect World, Murder In Mind, Waking The Dead and All About Me. Her most recent small-screen part was in Channel 4's teen drama Skins. Nina has also notched up several big-screen roles, including Bend It Like Beckham, White Teeth and The Goodbye Girls. She makes her Albert Square debut on Monday, July 16.
