Meera congrats EastEnders friends on awards: VIDEO
Meera Syal has sent her support to pals Nina Wadia and Nitin Ganatra following their win at this year's British Soap Awards. EastEnders' stars Nina - who appeared with Meera on the BBC sitcom Goodness Gracious Me - and Nitin picked up two trophies for Best Comedy Performance (Nina) and Best On-screen Partnership at the soap Oscars on Saturday night. Meera said: "Nitin called me on Sunday morning - he was still a bit croaky. I'm really pleased for them. It's a real vote of confidence that people really like the family. "Now they've got the awards I hope it means they'll be given a lot of really interesting and good stuff." But the multi-talented writer and actress, who will shortly be appearing in the BBC medical drama Holby City, ruled out appearing in a soap herself any time soon. She said: "I don't think I'd cope with the schedule of a soap, not with all the other stuff I do. "But, you never know, I could run the Queen Vic when I'm 60 - an old asian lady pulling pints!"
