Pam St Clement to release tell-all autobiography
EastEnders star Pam St Clement is reportedly set to reveal all about her 25 years in the soap in a new book. The 69-year-old actress, who has played Pat Evans, formerly Pat Butcher, since 1986, announced last month she was leaving the BBC show to pursue other work and opportunities. Pam has already begun work on an autobiography, The Sun reports, and is planning to release it after she leaves Albert Square this Christmas, including behind-the-scenes secrets from the soap. During her quarter of a century in EastEnders, Pat has been the centre of some shocking storylines, including working as a prostitute, being married four times, killing a teenage girl in a drink-driving collision and surviving a heart attack. But Pam's real life story has also been very eventful. The soap star had a difficult upbringing as her mother died soon after her birth in 1942, and when her father remarried she was put into care, growing up in foster homes and boarding schools. She discovered 15 years ago that she had a secret brother who her father had kept hidden from her. Pam came out as bisexual after getting divorced in 1976 and is an active campaigner for gay rights. Pam said last month: "I have enjoyed 25-and-a-half wonderful years in EastEnders creating the character of Pat, but feel it's time to hang up her earrings. Leaving the EastEnders 'family' will be akin to a bereavement. But I'm looking forward to the other work and life opportunities that I will have the time to pursue." She is the second longest-serving cast member after Adam Woodyatt, who has played Ian Beale since 1985.
