Ross Kemp confronts teen murders
Former EastEnders villain Ross Kemp has made a documentary about London's teen gangs - and the only absolute conclusion he drew was that the problem's getting worse. The teen murder rate in London has sky-rocketed over the past year, and Kemp told The Sun: "I have filmed on the streets of Jamaica and LA's gang-infested Compton, where these [roadside shrines] seem to be on every corner. "Now the sad, makeshift tributes are becoming a common sight on the streets of London, Manchester and other British cities." Sky One is screening his documentary, Teenage Gangs of South London, on Monday night. Filming was an eye-opener for Kemp. "I asked some young gang members, 'Could you get me a gun?' It was a case of, 'Yeah, in 10 minutes. What make do you want?'" Kemp said the reasons for the rise in teen gangs and murders are complex. Unemployment, drugs, violent computer games, macho rappers, territorial disputes and money all contribute to the problems, he believes. "The only thing I came away knowing for sure is that the problem is getting worse. All this just a few streets away from rich, middle-class houses. "Yet these two worlds do collide - with tragic consequences. Many of the gang members I spoke to admitted they robbed to make cash - sometimes mugging innocent people in the street."
