Clinical lead Connie Beauchamp returns to work after attending a conference and is shaken to find the emergency department running smoothly without her! Connie (Amanda Mealing) assumed arrogant trouble-shooter Ciaran Coulson would make a hash of managing Holby ED while she was away.

Instead Ciaran (Rick Warden) has the place ticking like clockwork! Already feeling undermined, there’s worse to come for Connie, who’s privately struggling with debilitating panic attacks... Ciaran has moved into her private office and expects them to share!

In a worrying development, this week the formerly fearless surgeon begins secretly self-medicating with diazepam, a tranquiliser that was left behind by a patient. With Ciaran monitoring her every move and desperate to appear calm, Connie pops pills to help control her anxiety. Later, when doctor Archie Hudson asks for help treating a seriously ill new mum, Connie reluctantly agrees after she spots Ciaran watching her...

Nurse Jacob Masters takes determined action to keep his mum, Omo, safe from drug dealers who’ve infiltrated every aspect of her life!

Desperate to catch Jet and her gang out Jacob is sleeping in his car in order to watch out for his mum. This week the situation boils over when Jacob confronts Jet and barges his way into Omo’s home. Unfortunately in the heated exchange Jet (Seroca Davis) stumbles and falls. Spotting an opportunity to get one over on Jacob, Jet insists she’s badly injured and the paramedics are called…

Later at the hospital, while Jet’s being treated, Jacob attempts help Omo realise she’s being manipulated. When Omo suddenly becomes ill in the ED, however, Jacob makes a shocking discovery about his mum’s health, which changes everything.

Can Jacob keep his defenceless mum safe?

Also this week Ethan inadvertently offends Connie. Later he provides vital support for a new dad.

David is an invaluable friend to Jacob. And Ciaran pushes Connie’s buttons…
