Unlike the days of Terry Wogan, there’s now a huge team (okay, seven) of hosts, including Graham Norton, Mel Giedroyc, Tess Daly and Ade Adepitan, who present the mix of comedy, music and moving stories.
In the Strictly Come Dancing BBC Children in Need Special 2018, the lads from Boyzone will join forces with the Strictly professional dancers in a bid to win the BBC Children in Need Pudsey Glitterball trophy.
On the music front, the cast of EastEnders will perform a show-stopping spectacle, and the casts of West End shows The School of Rock and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will take to the stage. Meanwhile, the BBC Children in Need Choir will perform A Million Dreams from one of 2018’s top films, The Greatest Showman.
Also, some deserving project workers funded by BBC Children in Need think they are filming a special video, what they don’t know is that they’ll be surprised by some of the biggest names in music including Little Mix, Sheridan Smith and Alfie Boe, who will give the project workers onstage a chance to duet with their musical idols.
There’s another surprise in store for an incredible young girl who’s supported by BBC Children in Need when she gets to the Doctor Who film set where she enters TARDIS and meets the entire cast before being surprised by the Doctor herself, Jodie Whittaker.
There’s also a treat in store for Call the Midwife fans with an exclusive first look at the BBC1 drama’s Christmas episode.
Other highlights include a Junior Mastermind BBC Children in Need special, hosted by actor and comedian Stephen Mangan, and The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge will come to an end as Matt Baker and the team finish their 423-mile journey from Calais to Salford.
Before the big night, there’s a Bargain Hunt special at 12.15pm, featuring Casualty stars past and present – Sunetra Sarker (Zoe), Michael French (Nick), Suzanne Packer (Tess) and Amanda Henderson (Robyn).
