A terrific sci-fi action thriller starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
He’s a cowardly PR expert who becomes an unwilling army grunt and ends up reliving the same day of extraterrestrial combat over and over again.
Somehow caught in a time loop, Cruise's smirking, shirking, clumsy wimp is initially a figure of fun, but as he repeats the same situations of training and fighting he gradually hones his skills, teaming up with Blunt's badass veteran warrior in a bid to defeat the tentacle-waving enemy.
The darkly comic early scenes are by far the best, but although the film becomes more conventional as it goes along, Cruise is a winner all the way, whether he's being a gung-ho hero or the butt of the joke.
