More startling secrets from the past are revealed on Emmerdale when Lydia Hart comes face-to-face with her "dead" mum, Agatha!

Lydia Hart's (played by Karen Blick) mysterious past has slowly begun to be revealed on Emmerdale (7:00pm, ITV, see our TV Guide for full listings) this year, following the SHOCK discovery of a baby's bones months ago.

Now, after solving the mystery of WHO her secret benefactor is, Lydia finds herself face-to-face with her believed-to-be-dead mum Agatha (guest star Judith Barker, who you might recognise as Ken Barlow's second wife Janet Reid on Corrie), who admits she has a lot of explaining to do.

You think? Like, where the heck has she been all these years!

Last week, Mandy Dingle helped Lydia Hart reach out to her estranged sister Beth on Emmerdale

But while Lydia tries to get her head around this unexpected family reunion, she's in for another SHOCK when Agatha reveals Lydia's father died of Huntington's disease, an inherited brain disorder.

How will Lydia handle the news there's a possibility she also has Huntington's?

Elsewhere in the village, David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) and Leyla Hading (Roxy Shahidi) are in disbelief over the news disgraced teacher Maya Stepney is being released early from prison.

Maya was sentenced to 12 months in prison back in the summer, after her indecent affair with David and Leyla's teenage student Jacob Gallagher (Joe Warren Plant) was exposed.

With Jacob having already vowed to wait for Maya to be released from prison so they can be together, will the disgraced former teacher make contact with Jacob?

Emmerdale continues weeknights from 7:00pm on ITV

Simon has long been a fan of soap operas, and especially loves OVER-THE-TOP plots involving evil twins, hair-pulling catfights and natural disasters. Anyone remember the Sunset Beach earthquake/tidal wave? Or when Krystle Carrington got locked in the attic and replaced by look-a-like Rita in Dynasty?!

Simon has written for a variety of TV and childrens’ magazines/websites including Inside Soap, Nickelodeon, What’s On TV, Radio Times, Metro, Girl Talk, Disney Girl, Toxic! and Digital Spy. He has reported LIVE from the red carpet at The British Soap Awards interviewing glammed-up stars from soapland, and hosted a Facebook LIVE session for Metro with Home and Away legend Ray Meagher (Alf "Stone the flamin' crows!" Stewart) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aussie soap.

Simon is also co-author of The Treasures Of Coronation Street (Carlton Books)

And the writer and director of (very!) low budget fright flick, Midsummer Night's EVIL and the sequel webisodes series, The Hatchet Woods HORROR.
