Borrowing the prized 1961 Ferrari convertible belonging to Cameron's dad, Ferris proceeds to bamboozle teachers, maitre d's and most of the adult population of Chicago in pursuit of a good time - but his envious sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) and the school's Dean of Students (Jeffrey Jones) are determined to ensure he gets his comeuppance... Charlie Sheen even has a small role as a leather-jacketed tear-away.
Slickly written and directed by John Hughes, Ferris Bueller is full of lovely sight gags and snappy one-liners, but it's the perfect casting that really makes the film a triumph. With another actor in the title role, you'd probably want to give Ferris a slap. Instead, from start to finish, Broderick's mischievous charm ensures we're rooting for him to succeed.
