In this bruising, London-set thriller, Jason Statham's ex-soldier-turned-drunken rough sleeper is a shaggy-haired, dishevelled mess who gets beaten to a pulp by a pair of thugs.
Then, following a credulity-stretching, fairy-tale-like change of fortune (and a makeover), he's soon dishing out the violence instead.
His ensuing mission of revenge and redemption takes some strange turns, including a bizarre romance with Agata Buzek's ballet-loving Polish nun, but Statham is at his brutal best during the bursts of action, while writer-director Steven Knight (the man behind Peaky Blinders and Taboo) gives the capital a gritty glamour.
