It's the day of Maria's results and she's beside herself with worry and Jason wishes her luck as she sets off for the hospital. With Marcus holding her hand Maria receives news about the lump in her breast. Realising he needs to speak to Maria again, Jason decides to go and see her at her flat, where Maria is spilling her heart out to Marcus. As she tells him he's one of the most important people in her world it's clear that their relationship is about to develop in a way neither of them could have expected! Anna tackles Mary about a Spanish night at the cafe, but is soon swept away by Mary's enthusiasm. Over at the Bistro Nick's concerns grow when Norris tells him Mary who persuaded him to cancel his booking at the Bistro in favour of a 10 per cent discount and free bottle of wine at the cafe's Spanish night. It's Ken's first governors' meeting and Brian's put out when Ken backs Wendy to oppose one of his proposals. Later, Brian is all ears when Wendy makes Ken an offer he finds he can't bring himself to refuse. Also, tempers fray between Tyrone and Kevin; Lloyd persuades Mandy to go to dinner with him; Eileen is ecstatic at her surprise party. *Second Episode, 8.30pm* Marcus and Maria pull back from their kiss when Jason rings the doorbell. A none-the-wiser Jason asks for news of Maria's hospital visit. Taking it in Jason tells Maria to meet him at Eileen's party. Alone again Maria and Marcus try to fathom out what made them kiss and are adamant that they both want to be with their other halves. They agree to forget it, but are awkward later at Eileen's party. Maria apologises to Jason and tells him he should move in after all. Later as Eileen's party winds down Maria takes Jason back home and Marcus heads off clubbing with Aiden. The cafe is crammed on Spanish night and Emily's convinced Roy would approve. Although Nick is annoyed at Mary he can't help, but be impressed. Ken reflects on how guilty he still feels about leaving Wendy high and dry all those years ago. She reiterates that it's all water under the bridge and gives him a gift. It's his birthday tomorrow and she hasn't forgotten. Ken is moved. Meanwhile, Deirdre collars Brian about the governors' meeting going on so long. Later, when Ken claims he was with Brian. Deirdre seethes, she knows he's lying! Also, tensions bubble under the surface for Kirsty and Tyrone.

An entertainment writer with a diverse taste in TV and film, he lists Seinfeld, The Sopranos, The Chase, The Thick of It and Detectorists among his favourite shows, but steers well clear of most sci-fi.
