Clare is feeling alone and vulnerable, when Max turns up for an unexpected visit, demanding she tell Social Services the truth about Tom. With nothing to lose, he threatens to poison Clare and finish the job. Clare retaliates by telling Max she'll change her police statement and say it was Max who attacked her, not Warren. While Nana McQueen fusses over Mercedes, Russ goes out job hunting and optimistic Mercedes begins booking appointments to view some luxury flats. But she's disappointed when Russ returns home to reveal he's got a less high-powered job than she hoped. Later, she feels more guilt-ridden about her night with Warren when Father Raymond arrives to run through their wedding vows. After asking for a moment alone with the priest, she confesses her sins, and admits she is torn between her love for Russ and knowing an innocent man will go to prison. Calvin worries about Louise's state of mind when she confesses she can remember nothing from the night of Clare's attack. After trying to reassure her that Warren is getting his just desserts, he suggests they use each other as alibis.
