Poldark - BBC1
In this week's Poldark, can Dr Enys rescue George from the depths of despair?
You’d have to have a heart of stone not to feel sorry for George Warleggan (Jack Farthing).
Sure, he’s done some awful things in his time and of course he’s still rubbing shoulders with evil slave trader Ralph Hanson (Peter Sullivan), but the sight of him trembling with grief in nothing but his nightshirt is something no Poldark fan will ever forget.
Jack's heart-rending performance has been the talk of social media, and he told TV Times about the joys and challenges of the role: "I won’t miss these heels, that’s for sure," laughs Jack, indicating his period footware.
"They’re Cuban in the extreme and I look like an antelope, as if I’m trotting along! And when I’m angry in them, it’s an absolute joke – I’m wobbling!"
But talking about George's troubles, he's more serious: "It’s been a challenge for me as an actor. George has been struck by Elizabeth’s death like he’s never been struck by anything.
"It’s been seismic for him, he’s had to go to some very dark places and he’s kind of post-traumatic.
"There are still huge challenges ahead for him – for a great chunk of this series he’s definitely reeling and his grief goes in waves. It’s profound."
Tonight’s episode sees Dr Enys take pity on poor George and offer to help with his recovery.
But there’s an immediate setback when a violent mob, still livid about the Wheal Plenty mine disaster, decides to take up arms and storm Trenwith!
Meanwhile, Cecily learns she’s to be married off to George.
Dare we say it, but so far this series is the best yet!
