Enter the flamboyant underground world of cabaret culture in 1980s New York in BBC2's Pose
Prepare to be immersed in underground LGBT culture in the hit US drama Pose from Ryan Murphy, who penned shows including Glee and American Horror Story.
Set in 1980s New York, the series follows several ‘Houses’ – alternative families – run by ‘Mothers’ and mostly made up of gay black men, drag queens and transgender youths – which compete against each other at secret balls.
With the largest transgender cast ever assembled for a scripted television series, alongside stars like James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) and Kate Mara (House of Cards), Pose is an acquired taste but one to watch.
Strike a Pose, about the music in the series, follows on BBC2 at 10.15pm.
