A big-shot New York businessman, he asks her directions to Beverly Hills. He needs an escort while he's in town for the week, so makes Roberts a business proposition - to be his escort for $3000.
Roberts accepts and gets to live in luxury, go to expensive dinner dates and have designer clothes bought for her. It's not long, of course, before their relationship moves onto a much more personal footing...
What could have been quite a tasteless story is saved by smart humour and engaging performances from Roberts and Gere.
There's also a great supporting turn from Laura San Giacomo and you can't help but be won over by the film's charm.
