When the RAF was formed during the final months of World War One, the pilots flew in rickety planes with only a pistol as protection.

These days, fighter jets cost around £60m and travel at twice the speed of sound, as Ewan McGregor and his brother, Colin – a former fighter pilot – discover when they take control of a Typhoon at 20,000ft.

But that’s just one of many special moments in this film marking the RAF’s 100th birthday as the boys trace the Air Force’s history by speaking to Battle of Britain flying aces, Lancaster Bomber Boys, Cold War airmen, Falklands fighter pilots and many others with amazing tales to tell.
