Popular nurse Rita Freeman is looking forward to taking over Fletch’s old job as Senior Staff Nurse this week. But her plans to start a new chapter in her life this week go up in smoke when her jailbird husband, Mark (EastEnders’ Joel Beckett), turns up in the emergency department!
Rita’s told friends and colleagues her husband was dead, while secretly she’s been trying to divorce him. Former schoolteacher Mark, however, has been refusing to sign the divorce papers and this week gets himself beaten up by his fellow inmates in order to be taken to the Holby’s ED so he can talk to his wife face-to-face.
At first Rita doesn’t recognise beaten and bloody Mark, who is serving time for sleeping with one of his pupils but, when she does, she’s visibly stunned and rushes away. Despite her desperate attempts to hide the truth, it’s not long before the whole sorry story comes spilling out…
It looks like this major lie may cost Rita her job!
Elsewhere, Jeff’s romance with wealthy Samantha is going great guns and the paramedic is on cloud nine when he returns to work at the hospital the morning after another hot date with his wealthy event planner girlfriend.
After many loveless years Jeff feels he’s hit the jackpot, and she doesn’t even have a problem with Jeff’s marriage-of-convenience to his lesbian paramedic pal Dixie! But while Jeff’s past is an open book, the loved-up medic still has a lot to learn about his new love interest.
