Huw Edwards presents coverage of the concert marking the centenary of the end of World War One from London’s Royal Albert Hall where the Queen, members of the Royal Family, Prime Minister Theresa May and senior members of the military will be in attendance.
There will be performances from Tom Jones, who will be singing with Royal Air Force band The Squadronaires, and the singer’s fellow Welshman and knight of the realm, Sir Bryn Terfel, will also be peforming.
Also on the bill are McFly lads Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones; Sheridan Smith, who’s just released her second album, A Northern Soul; and The Kingdom Choir, who performed at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back in May.
Meanwhile, actors Michael Palin, Adrian Lester and Nina Wadia, accompanied by classical cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, will lead a unique tribute to World War One and a special citation, written by War Horse author and playwright Sir Michael Morpurgo, will be read.
The Festival of Remembrance will also celebrate another significant centenary – 100 years of the RAF – with a performance by The Central Band of The Royal Air Force.
The Armed Forces of today will also play an important role and special recognition will be given to the patients and staff at Headley Court in the year the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre closes its doors for good.
The BBC continues the theme on Sunday with coverage from the Cenotaph (10am), a special Songs of Praise (1.45pm, times vary), and a service from Westminster Abbey (5.10pm).
ITV pays tribute on Sunday with Britain’s Poppies (9.30pm), while Sky Greats’ weekend of classic war films includes The Great Escape and Saving Private Ryan.
