A cyber attack throws Holby City hospital into chaos, Iain’s life hangs in the balance, and Ruby races against the clock...
Hospitals are used to dealing with infectious diseases, but when a computer virus suddenly spreads through Holby this week, wiping out vital computer software, medical staff are thrown into chaos.
The drama starts downstairs in Casualty on Saturday when critical medical machinery falsely reports that stable patients are crashing. Soon it emerges the entire hospital is being cyber attacked!
The two-part crossover special between BBC1’s sister medical dramas Casualty and Holby City marks the 20th anniversary of Holby City, with favourites from both series starring across the two special episodes.

Connie Vs Jac
Clinical lead Connie Beauchamp should be at home resting after being violently attacked. But as soon as she’s alerted to the crisis at work Connie races to the ED.
Once there, Connie (Amanda Mealing) desperately battles to keep the ED running while simultaneously fighting to save the life of paramedic Iain Dean. Unfortunately for Connie, this means asking her Holby City nemesis Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) for help…
Jac, however, has other concerns. Holby City surgeon Sacha Levy has been involved in a car accident with his daughter Beka and colleague Ric Griffin’s granddaughter Darla. When the second crossover episode airs in Holby City on Tuesday, Sacha suddenly needs surgery too. Connie and Jac have a vicious showdown, as they both want to save the lives of their friends…

Ruby rescues Iain – but can she save him?
Paramedic Ruby Sparks is alarmed when boss Jan Jenning reveals Iain has phoned in sick. He was acting out of character when she last saw him and now all his kit is in his locker, which has also been cleaned out. Feeling uneasy Ruby pays Iain a house call, only to find her friend unconscious but no evidence of foul play.
Viewers already know that Iain took a deadly overdose last week and time is of the essence. While Ruby suspects Iain’s tried to commit suicide, she needs to prove it before Connie mistakenly treats him for heart failure. Will Ruby find Iain’s hidden pill bottles so he can get the correct, urgent treatment?
Also this week
Iain’s sister Gem is distraught when Ruby brings her brother into the ED and voices suspicions that he may have tried to kill himself. Certain Iain would never choose to die, Gem instructs Connie to treat him for the heart attack he seems to have suffered…
Elle’s efforts to help keep the ED running smoothly put Connie’s nose out of joint. In a bid to assert her authority, Connie dismisses Elle’s practical suggestions and sends her out of the hospital to deal with a car crash!
Later, at the scene of the crash, Elle treats distraught Sacha, his daughter Beka and Ric’s granddaughter, Darla.
Unsung hero of the ED, receptionist Noel leaps into action when the ED is attacked. But Noel is left feeling worried and guilty when he overhears something that suggests he may have unwittingly caused the cyber attack.
Meanwhile, Jan is privately heartbroken she missed signs that Iain needed help.
Elsewhere, Dylan wants to know, why does Elle have Ric Griffin’s personal mobile number?
