Remarkably, we are now into the 20th series of the long-running forensic drama, and the writers are clearly trying to move with the times as it kicks off with Identity, a topical two-parter about immigration featuring scenes set in a French refugee camp.

When Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) is asked to DNA test a severed finger sent to a young Syrian refugee whose mother is missing, a chain of events is set in motion that puts her life and career at risk.

Meanwhile, the autopsy of a man who died after an apparent suicide leap from the top of a building makes the team reassess the cause of death… Continues tomorrow evening at 9.00pm.
