Simon gees himself up for work and Cherry surprises him with some Fairy Cakes – she's worried about him but Simon says he's fine. She invites him on holiday with her and Jimmi; Simon is touched but doesn't want to play gooseberry. Later, she and Ruth encourage him to take a proper holiday so that he's not alone over Christmas – but not until after Ruth's party. At the end of the day Simon is surprised by how OK he feels and picks up the phone to a travel agent, but then Najmah enters, pale and emotional, and lets rip at him, leaving him in pieces. Imogen impresses Karen by announcing she's booked a fly-fishing trip for her and Rob. Rob is touched but struggles to find enthusiasm until Imogen's lame attempts at fishing break his mood and he laughs. Rob finally tells her about Scarlett's death. Imogen cries, but she is impressed with her dad – they forget what he does and what he has to deal with. At home, Rob thanks Karen for her part in the day's events – it feels like things are finally settling down. Meanwhile at work, Jimmi finds Karen in tears, but what for? Elsewhere, a student has to face up to the consequences of her actions when her boyfriend makes a surprise return from his travels.
