Troubles: The Life After - BBC2
An intimate account of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, told through the stories of women who lost loved ones during the conflict, which lasted more than 30 years
A powerful feature-length documentary reflects on the Troubles in Northern Ireland that raged from 1969 and lasted 30 years.
In this poignant film, women from both sides of the divide share their memories against a backdrop of archive footage and lyrical poetry.
Ann Devenny recalls the night, when she was 16 years old, that the Royal Ulster Constabulary raided her home and beat up her father – leaving him for dead.
Sharon Austin (pictured, above) gives a harrowing account of the murder of her adored 18-year-old brother at the hands of the IRA.
These stories serve as a stark reminder of the conflict that killed 3,532 people – most of them civilians – and robbed a generation of family life.
