War on Plastic with Hugh and Anita takes up arms against a material that humanity has come to rely on too much
We all know that we need to reduce our consumption of single-use plastic, but how easy will it be for a street in Bristol to work together to make significant cutbacks in their homes and everyday lives?
The experiment is part of Anita Rani and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's three-part mission to combat the dangers that plastic poses to our oceanlife.
The pair challenge supermarkets to change their packaging, assess whether bottled water really is better for us and demonstrate the utter confusion that recycling bins provoke.
"Single-use plastic is a problem," Anita told TV Times. "We’ve reached a critical point.
"We look at why we’ve got this issue and we push the government and businesses but we also examine our individual responsibility.
"It’s an interesting experiment. One lady, Kay, was adamant she’d not stop buying cheese individually wrapped in tiny chunks but if Kay can adapt, we can all do something!
"The residents are also doing things like collecting crisp packets and sending them to a company that turns them into other products.
"Hopefully this will encourage people to change their habits and have their own ideas."
Meanwhile, in a truly shocking segment, Hugh travels to Malaysia where he finds piles of British recycling that have been dumped on illegal sites there and even burnt.
To say he is unimpressed is an understatement…
