The Jetty episode 2 recap: who is the body in the lake?
The Jetty episode 2 sees a body pulled from the lake, but is it missing Amy Knightly?
The Jetty is a new thriller starring Jenna Coleman as a recently widowed detective, Ember Manning, who uncovers dark secrets in the sleepy town she's always called home. But as Ember gets close to the truth, it threatens to destroy her life – forcing her to re-evaluate everything she thought she knew about her late husband, Mack, and the life they built together.
Here is everything that happened in The Jetty episode 2...
The second episode of this twisty-turny thriller opens with Ember pondering over the photo she found of Mack with Amy taken the day before she went missing. Hannah doesn't seem to think it is anything to worry about, but Ember looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Ember goes to see Riz, who is still making her podcast about Amy Knightly's disappearance. Ember wants to join forces and investigate together but Riz wants to interview her. Ember refuses but tells her there was a rumour that Amy's parents were short on cash and had taken a life insurance policy out in her name. This piques Riz's interest and they talk more, with Riz revealing she has an eyewitness who saw Amy walking towards the lake the night she went missing, but no one searched the lake in the hunt for Amy, which she finds odd.
Ember tries to get her hands on Amy's police case file, but she needs authority from her boss, which she knows she isn't going to get. Annoyed, she goes into the hospital with Hitch and they see the Ashby's at Miranda's baby's incubator and Hitch plays devil's advocate by suggesting that Liam could be the baby's father.
At Sylvia's, Ember lets herself in to get her old photo albums and we discover that Sylvia is Ember's mum. They reminisce over old pictures of Ember's 17th birthday and Ember is relieved when her mum reveals that it was the same night Amy went missing and that Mack stayed at their house. This is music to Ember's ears as it means he can't have had anything to do with Amy's disappearance if he was with them all night. Sylvia reveals she has been speaking to Amy and she wants everyone to know her father lied... but Ember doesn't believe in all her mum's medium stuff and goes home.
The next morning Ember and Hannah talk about marking the one-year anniversary of Mack's death together by scattering his ashes. Ember then drives Hannah to school in Mack's old car, and she is clearly in a better place now she knows he couldn't have had anything to do with Amy going missing.

The episode then flashes back 17 years where we see Caitlin being dropped off at the same school by her mum who tries to talk to her about Amy, telling her that she is a bad influence, but Caitlin doesn't want to hear it.
Back in the present day, Ember goes to see Arj at the sailing club to invite him to scatter Mack's ashes with her and Hannah. He notes that she is very friendly with Casey, her counselor, who she has just chatted to on the way into the club. But Ember dismisses it, and Arj says he is just looking out for her because he promised Mack he would.
Down at the waterfront, Hitch and Ember are investigating a theft when they see a young schoolgirl get out of Ellis Ashby's car. But while Hannah and her friends, who are also at the waterfront, claim they don't know the girl as she is in the year below, they are all shocked when it isn't Ellis who gets out of the car and argues with the girl, it is the Ashby dad, Brad.
Ember heads straight to the hospital to see Sheena and tells her that if someone was abusing Miranda then there is a chance they will be doing it to other girls. She is talking about Brad and Sheena knows it, but just as she is about to say something, he appears behind them and tells Ember to leave.
Ember goes back to see Riz and tells her that if her source is the young girl she saw arguing with Brad earlier then she could be in danger. Riz doesn't want the police to open the case before her podcast comes out, but Ember asks who said anything about the police getting involved, revealing she is planning to investigate this against her boss's wishes.
Riz seems happy with this and tells Ember that she is struggling to track down the witness who saw Amy walking to the lake the night she went missing. She says there is no official witness statement and all she has is a photo of some initials, a surname and the phone number of someone who called the station to report what he had seen. But the number is no longer in use and Ember points out the initials FF aren't initials but it's police speak for frequent flyer, someone who calls in a lot, which is why no one followed it up.
Ember and Hitch go to the Knightly's house even though no one at work has asked them to. Ember grills Mrs Knightly about the weekend Amy went missing and she confirms she was away at a conference and her husband Russell was at home with Amy. She says no one hurt Amy and that she left of her own free will, taking her passport with her. Russell joins the conversation, he tells Ember that Amy had a friend called friend Caitlin, but she wasn't with her that night. Amy's parents reveal there were boys in Amy's life but they didn't know them because they were low lives and Amy knew they wouldn't approve.
Russell is vague about what happened the night Amy went missing, claiming that he fell asleep and so didn't report her missing until the following morning. He is picking at his hands, so Ember asks him what is wrong, and his wife cuts in to say they had Japanese knotweed and he has been suffering ever since. On the way out, a photo of Russell with a former police colleague catches Ember's eye.
The scene then flashes back 17 years to see Amy and Caitlin bunking off school, but Russell doesn't see them come home because he is on the phone yelling at someone about work. As they sit in her room and talk about all the far-flung places that Amy wants to travel to an estate agent, Diane, arrives and Amy explains they are selling their house. As the girls get downstairs to sneak out they catch Russell and Diane having sex in his office, but instead of running off unseen, Amy makes sure they know she is there by playing the piano loudly in the hallway.
Back in the present, Ember tracks down the retired Super Intendant in the Knightly's photo and pretends to be a journalist, asking why the lake was never searched in the hunt for Amy. He is cross, telling her that the so-called witness was a reward hunter and got aggressive with the police officers when they wouldn't take his statement.
Using this information, Ember knows that the witness, Mohammed, would have been done under section 89 for getting cross with the police, and with that she manages to track him down. Mohammed tells them that he told the police that he saw Amy by the lake on a Friday night. They told him she went missing on a Saturday, but Mohammed is adamant it was Friday because he doesn't work Saturdays. He tells Ember and Hitch that he saw a dark car speed off from the lake 2 hours after he saw Amy and the penny drops for Ember that Mr Knightly has lied.
They head back to the Knightly's house and confront Russell who eventually admits he was away that weekend, using the fact his wife was away to have an affair, leaving Amy home alone. He lied about what night Amy went missing to cover his tracks. He also lied about her taking her passport, because he later found it behind the bureau, something he has never told his wife. Ember suggests he comes clean because the truth is about to come out. This is also big news for Ember because she realises Mack could have been involved after all now the night Amy went missing has changed.
Ember messages Riz asking to see the case file but she tells her that her laptop has been stolen so she couldn't even if she wanted to. Panicking about Mack's involvement with Amy's disappearance Ember hunts for the photo of them together, but it has gone missing. She barges into Hannah's room but she is in there with a boy, Kyle, who Ember is in no mood to be polite to. She asks where the photo is, and Hannah says it is in her room because her friend Chloe has been talking to a podcaster who wanted pictures of Amy, so she sent a picture of it to her.
Ember is fuming that Hannah has just let Riz know that Mack knew Amy and flies off the handle. Kyle comes in to try and defuse the situation but Ember throws him out of the house and Hannah yells that she is going to her nan's.
The next day Ember is getting grilled by her boss, DI Morgan, about the Knightly case, which she has been investigating off the record, and asks him to open the case again. She claims she doesn't want to be the one to do it though as she is too busy at work, but really it is because of Mack's suspected involvement. As she walks out of the office Mr Ryan is there, the owner of the boat hut, who is reporting vandalism to his car. But while he is there Ember asks him about his private investigator, who she caught there a few nights before, but he denies having a PI and she realises it must be Riz who hired him.
Ember calls her and leaves a message begging for her to ring her back, revealing that she knows Riz knows who her husband is now. Ember gets drunk, and in flashbacks, we see Amy and Caitlyn down at the jetty where Caitlin gives her friend a St Christopher necklace to keep her safe on her travels.
In the present day, Hannah is embarrassed when she gets home to find her mum drunk and tells her that Sylvia is outside. Ember quickly sobers up and lets her mum in, asking her to do a seance trying to speak to Mack. But, instead of finding Mack, Sylvia starts talking about a woman who needs to be found and that she is in the lake, by the Jetty, which scares Ember.
In another flashback we see Amy going into a restricted area by the jetty where men are spraying the ground, trying to get rid of Japanese knotweed. Amy doesn't take it seriously and flirts with the men, trying to get a rise out of Mack, who is working nearby. He gets cross with her, telling her off for coming to his workplace and storming off. Amy gets annoyed with Caitlin who tries to defuse the argument with Mack, ripping off the necklace she gave her and throwing it at her before following after Mack.
In the present day, Hitch messages Ember and tells her that the divers found something in the lake. She gets down to the jetty as they take a look at the body, but it's not Amy... it is Riz! Who has killed her?
