Johnny Briggs returns... to Holby!
Former Corrie star Johnny Briggs is set to make his TV comeback just months after leaving the soap. He has been snapped up by the Beeb to star in a two-part special of medical drama Holby City. A spokesperson at the BBC said: "We're delighted we've managed to get Johnny as he's not really doing that much acting any more." Fans of the actor and the show will have to stay tuned for details about the plot involving Briggs - at the moment it's top-secret information. The veteran actor, now in his 70s, spent three decades playing wheeler-dealer Mike Baldwin. The character was a favourite among viewers, and most famously had a fling with Deirdre Barlow - wife of Ken, who became his long-standing enemy. Last year, devotees of the serial were hooked as Mike's health slowly declined, thanks to Alzheimer's disease. The character shuffled off the mortal coil after collapsing in the street, and breathed his last while in Ken's arms. Speaking about his retirement from showbiz, Johnny said after 60 years in the entertainment industry, it was about time he put his feet up. His appearance in Holby City is scheduled for the end of February.
