What are John Paul’s feelings for Doug?
"He’s found a kindred spirit in Doug. They’ve both had a really difficult time, they get on well and the chemistry is there."
Doug even helps John Paul take revenge on his boss Patrick, doesn't he?
"Yes. Patrick suspends John Paul for not taking action when he knew that Jen was having an inappropriate relationship with a student, Tilly. John Paul gets his revenge by plastering Post-It notes all over Patrick’s car - and Doug helps him.
Is that when they kiss?
"Yes, they’re a bit drunk and they have that excited feeling you get when you’re doing something naughty. John Paul takes Doug in his arms and kisses him."
But they don't know someone is watching them…
"It’s Robbie and he’s taking photographs of them. The first John Paul realises they’ve been caught out is when he walks into the college and sees that the corridors are plastered with the photos of him and Doug kissing on Patrick's Post-It note-covered car. It’s not good."
Does John Paul have any idea who took the photos?
"He doesn’t know who it is, but he’d love to find out and make their life a misery. Instead, Patrick sacks him and he’s gutted. Everyone’s laughing at him, he’s humiliated, his reputation is in tatters and he fears he might never teach again."
So he does a runner!
"John Paul takes baby Matthew and gets on a bus. I don’t think he knows where he’s going or what he’s doing."
Is he going for good?
"No, he’ll be back. He’ll go off and sort his head out and hopefully come back and make a fresh start."
And will that fresh start include Doug?
"Watch this space!"
