Ex-Home and Away star Dan Ewing fights aliens on the big screen!
Dan Ewing, who played Heath Braxton on and off for a decade in Home and Away, turns action-hero in a new Aussie alien invasion flick
Ex-Home and Away star Dan Ewing battled plenty of baddies during his time as Summer Bay's Heath Braxton. But now he's taking on aliens in a big budget Australian action film, Occupation.
Dan stars as a depressed former football player, Matt in the film about the residents of a small Australian country town fighting for survival after an extraterrestrial invasion. The film has already been a hit Down Under and a sequel is now in the works, with hopes Occupation could become a film franchise.
"In terms of anything we’ve seen in Australia before, it definitely is a must-see action film.” Dan told The Morning Show.
Dan's real-life girlfriend Katrina Risteska is also in the film's cast as well as one-time Home and Away stars Stephany Jacobsen (Charlotte) and Rhiannon Fish (April).
While Hollywood already has another famous ex-Home and Away star Chris Hemsworth, Dan is happy focusing on his career in Australia. As well as Occupation, he has also shot another three films, sports comedy-drama Chasing Comets, horror-thriller Beast No More and the sci-fi flick, 1.
“It’s funny. You don’t need to be in Hollywood to star in great films,” continued Dan. “If you told me I would have four films released in 2018, I wouldn’t believe you. It’s insane. I have a beautiful 3-year-old boy and when you have a family, you raise them in Australia.

Simon has long been a fan of soap operas, and especially loves OVER-THE-TOP plots involving evil twins, hair-pulling catfights and natural disasters. Anyone remember the Sunset Beach earthquake/tidal wave? Or when Krystle Carrington got locked in the attic and replaced by look-a-like Rita in Dynasty?!
Simon has written for a variety of TV and childrens’ magazines/websites including Inside Soap, Nickelodeon, What’s On TV, Radio Times, Metro, Girl Talk, Disney Girl, Toxic! and Digital Spy. He has reported LIVE from the red carpet at The British Soap Awards interviewing glammed-up stars from soapland, and hosted a Facebook LIVE session for Metro with Home and Away legend Ray Meagher (Alf "Stone the flamin' crows!" Stewart) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aussie soap.
Simon is also co-author of The Treasures Of Coronation Street (Carlton Books)
And the writer and director of (very!) low budget fright flick, Midsummer Night's EVIL and the sequel webisodes series, The Hatchet Woods HORROR.
