Home And Away couple get engaged
Home And Away stars Luke Mitchell and Rebecca Breeds are set to tie the knot. The couple, who play Summer Bay's Romeo Smith and Ruby Buckton, confirmed the news in Australian magazine New Idea. "Honestly, it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life. I had the element of surprise - I didn't tell anyone what I was planning, not a soul, not even my parents," said Luke. The actor - who had been preparing for the proposal for three months - popped the question in April as they holidayed in Hayman Island, Queensland, to celebrate his birthday. "Pretending there was nothing special on my mind for three months before I actually asked her to marry me - that was the best acting I've ever done!" he added. Rebecca admitted the proposal took her by shock: "I turned around and there was Luke on one knee with a ring box in his hand. My jaw just hit the ground. I was so surprised I forgot to say 'yes' at first!" The couple met in May 2009 after Luke had been cast in the Australian soap, and initially became friends before embarking on a relationship. Rebecca joked she is impatient to walk up the aisle. "I don't want a long engagement. There's a film out at the moment, The Five-Year Engagement, but I don't think that's how we're going to roll!" she added. Home And Away airs on weekdays on Channel 5 in the UK.
