Larry Lamb voted camp president as campers win tomb trial on I'm a Celebrity

Former EastEnders star Larry Lamb was voted president of the jungle camp, with Scarlett Moffatt his deputy, as I'm a Celebrity continued

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Scarlett Moffatt was brought to tears by the prospect of facing a cage full of 120,000 critters in the first Bushtucker Trial of this year’s series.

The Gogglebox star, 25, joined ex-Strictly professional Ola Jordan, 34, Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo, 23, and Olympic gold medal winner Sam Quek, 28, in the Tomb of Torment on the show’s second episode, broadcast on Monday.

The programme also saw actor Larry Lamb voted by the public as the show’s first ever Camp President, tasked with delegating jobs and ruling on all camp decisions.

As the unfortunate foursome geared themselves up to win stars for the camp, presenters Ant and Dec told them: “You’re going to be locked underground in a cramped pitch black tomb for 10 minutes as 10 stars are on offer. Every star you get is worth a meal in camp.

“However, as it’s a Bushtucker Trial you won’t be in there alone, in fact you’ll be joined by the most critters we’ve ever had in I’m A Celebrity history.”

But the thought almost proved too much for Scarlett, who started crying before the challenge started.

As her campmates comforted her, she said: “I’m so pleased you are all here, I couldn’t do it without you.”

The four of them held hands as they lay down in position in the dark cage, moments before a swarm of cockroaches, giant meal worms, rats, crickets and spiders were released over them.

Sam suggested they sing Spice Girls songs to take their mind off the trial and Jordan complained: “Oh no, there’s a rat up my arse.”

After the klaxon sounded to signal they had completed the challenge, Dec described them as “the fantastic four”.

It continued to be a big day for Scarlett, who was picked to be Larry’s second in command, the Camp Deputy.

The pair’s first job was to allocate jobs to everyone in the camp, which will be rewarded with 10 dingo dollars for each day that the chores are properly completed by the right people.

Radio presenter Lisa Snowdon and Jordan were given the job of camp cooks, Ola and Sam were assigned washing up duty, Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas and comedian Joel Dommett were given the cleaning jobs, while Carol Vorderman and ex-footballer Wayne Bridge were named camp maintenance staff.

Lisa and Jordan successfully completed their task by cooking a meal that the whole camp enjoyed.

But unsure about handling the disciplining side of her new job, Scarlett said: “I’m just going to be really easy on everyone. If anyone hasn’t done their job I’m going to have to make sure Larry tells them.”

Ant and Dec also revealed the second Bushtucker Trial, which may ring a few bells with cookery show fans: I’m A Celebrity Big Bush Bake Off.

Viewers were invited to vote for the two celebrities they wanted to see take their seats and be served a selection of “jungle delicacies” by Scary Berry.

The unfortunate pair will be revealed on Wednesday’s show.

Tuesday’s show was followed at 10pm on ITV2 by the programme’s new companion show I’m A Celebrity… Extra Camp, hosted by Stacey Solomon, Chris Ramsey, Vicky Pattison and Joe Swash with celebrity guest Brooke Vincent.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues on Wednesday night on ITV at 9pm.
