The style highs and lows of the National TV Awards

The National Television Awards is one of the biggest nights for the glitterati of TV – and making a statement on the red carpet is all part of the package.

We take a look at some of the fashion trends of the evening.

Baby bumps

Baby bumps were one of the must have 'accessories' of the evening, as modelled by Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker, TV presenter Julia Bradbury (who’s having twins) and EastEnders' Jacqueline Jossa.

Green goddesses

One way to stand out on a red carpet is to wear a contrasting colour. And why go for boring black when you can shimmer in rich emerald.

Emmerdale newcomer Gillian Kearney was channelling the green fields of the Dales (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

Shona McGarty (ian West/PA)

EastEnders' Shona McGarty looked much more glamorous than her alter-ego Whitney Dean (Ian West/PA)

Sandy and Sandra (Anthony Devlin/PA)

We’re more used to seeing Gogglebox’s Sandy and Sandra in their onesies (Anthony Devlin/PA)

Voluminous skirts

Gliding down the red carpet looks even better with a big skirt billowing behind you

Emma Willis (Doug Peters/Empics)

Emma Willis’ two-tone parachute skirt made sure her cropped top look was dressy enough for the evening (Doug Peters/Empics)

Kate Garraway (Ian West/PA)

Kate Garraway’s sparkly top and prom skirt are both dressy and elegant (Ian West/PA)

Darcey Bussell (Doug Peters/Empics)

Rochelle Humes (Yui Mok/PA)

Rochelle Humes chose to flaunt her curves in a fishtail dress too. But red on red is risky (Yui Mok/PA)

Dare to bare

Stephanie Davis (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

Hollyoaks star Stephanie Davis has a great figure, but it’s best to leave a little to the imagination (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

Casey Batchelor (Ian West/PA)

Sexy suits

Some ladies shunned girly dresses for macho suits – and looked stunning.

You’ve been Tangoed

Orange can look great, and is on trend for this season. But it clashes with the red carpet...

Jessica Wright (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

At least Jessica Wright’s fake tan is toned down a bit by her tangerine frock (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

Kellie Bright (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

We love the shape of Kellie Bright’s 50s style dress, but the bright colour does not look good on the carpet (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

Sleek and chic in black

Is playing it safe in black too boring? Or a timeless classic?

Mel B (Doug Peters/EMPICS)

Mel B isn’t a bit scary in this  elegant gown (Doug Peters/EMPICS)
