Stefan Dennis: Neighbours' tornado felt like the real thing
Neighbours star Stefan Dennis has admitted he felt he was really battling the elements to film the tornado scenes for the soap's upcoming disaster.
A hurricane is set to bring panic and destruction to Ramsay Street and Stefan's character Paul Robinson braves the storm when he worries nephew Daniel Robinson (Tim Phillipps) may be stranded in it.
Paul said of shooting the scenes: "In the past we've had an explosion or a fire or a car crash or a bomb, where as this was rain and hail and wind and tornado and things falling apart and buildings falling over - so there was an awful lot of special effects all at the same time."
The 55-year-old actor, who has been in Neighbours for 18 years, said: "It was b****y cold. We were literally out in the elements, even though they were man-made elements.
"We were using rain machines and wind machines. At one point we had three massive wind machines all working at the same time to create the tornado and the hurricane effects. And these are massive machines - the things they use in the Hollywood blockbusters.
"So you've got that throwing all sorts of debris around, stuff flying at you, plus wind and rain that can become quite stinging because it's so forceful.
"And the irony was, because we were filming in the middle of winter it was freezing and that week we got loads and of loads of rain - it was really stormy week that week so it all added to the effect."

Scheming businessman Paul is currently suffering from depression as he blames himself for Kate Ramsay's death.
Stefan revealed: "Paul is still suffering from depression when the tornado hits.
"He goes into a panic as the last time Daniel and Paul speak before the tornado hits they have a bit of a barney and they part on unfriendly terms.
"So it's not just concern but it's also guilt that's driven Paul to go and find him - because he wants to apologise."
