New Tricks new boy Nicholas gets Alun's approval
Alun Armstrong has given his backing to Nicholas Lyndhurst who's replacing him in BBC1 hit New Tricks.
The 67-year-old actor, who's quitting after a decade as pedantic copper Brian Lane, tells TV Times that he's pleased the Only Fools and Horses actor is joining the cast.
"I'm happy to pass the baton on to Nicholas, he's a nice fella and he's playing a very interesting character," reveals Alun, whose last episode is next Tuesday.
After James Bolam's departure last year, fans are having to come to terms with Alun leaving and, later in the series, Amanda Redman's exit as DS Sandra Pullman.
But the original line-up, which also includes Dennis Waterman, remain friends.
"We'll all still meet up – even after James left, we dragged him up to London. We'll be the New Tricks gang for ever," says Alun.
